Up in Smoke

abstract smoke pattern with copy space

A long and deep intoxicating puff:

Blissful reverie, its ages since you woke,

Every breath makes you writhe, painfully cough,

Sit back and watch your dreams go up in smoke…

Ecstasy, madness, raving, craving evermore,

Veiled by the shady cataract, your very vision will choke,

In spirited glee, the forbidden you explore,

Shameless, the lunatic celebrates, as his dignity goes up in smoke…

Emaciated, pale, red watery eyes,

Yet tongue like a knife, scars is left of what you spoke,

In hearts who trust, in their loving desperate sighs,

Ignorant, arrogant, you see your relations go up in smoke …

Every breath stings like a venomous snake,

Yet, a faithful slave, you remain deceived by its cloak,

When, oh when will you awake?

To watch your very life’s purpose, go up in smoke?

In the sands of time, in halls of fame,

Fires of inspiration many souls stoke,

Indeed what a pity, what a terrible shame,

You choose to leave a legacy in wisps of mere smoke!
